House of Representatives says it will partner the Nigerian Bar Association and Civil society organisations to draft a new legislation that seek to hold erring members of the Nigeria Police to account.

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila

Speaker of the House, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila stated this during proceeding in response to rampant cases of misconduct, abuse of authority and brutality on some civilians by the Nigeria Police in some parts of the country.

Mr Gbajabiamila explained that the legislation would also compelled the Police to take responsibility for the failures of training and discipline that leads to such violations.

The Speaker lamented that actions of the police betray the people’s trust and wreak unquantifiable damage on the already frayed fabric of the society.

He urged Nigerians to support the house on this endeavor to achieve the vision of a Nation where the citizens trust the police to always act in the public’s best interest.
