Federal Government has called on institutions of learning to put in place preventive measures against COVID-19 before announcing re-opening dates.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, gave the advice in Abuja at the 2020 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions .
Adamu Adamu who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwwuemeka Nwajiuba said the premises of each institution must be decontaminated and efforts taken to maintain highest level hygiene.
The Minister submitted that institutions must be prepared to adhere to all safety protocols rolled out by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.
He said it would be wise for heads of institutions in the country not to wait until a formal order to reopen schools was made, before putting necessary measures in place.
The Minister noted that the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 was working with facts and figures that reflected realities of the country’s current situation.
He commended institutions that responded promptly with different innovations, including the manufacture of facilities that have been used to contain the coronavirus.
Some of the innovations, the minister noted, were the production of ventilators, body disinfectants, hand washing equipment, liquid dispensers and body temperature gauges.
