Insecurity : Gov Elrufai Apologizes Over Killings, Abductions In Kaduna

Governor Nasiru Elrufai has apologized to the people of Kaduna state over the pains caused by security challenges despite to contain it.

He stated this while delivering his speech after receiving second quarter security situation report of this year from the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan held at government house kaduna.

Malam Nasiru Elrufai explained that, the data on security incidences reflected the real challenges the citizens and communities were facing in the state.

“The report just presented by our Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs shows that security incidents happened all over the state in the three months from April to June 2021. The Kaduna Central Senatorial District remains the most impacted by these incidents, as it was in the Security Incidents Reports for 2020 and the first quarter of 2021”

According to him, the report also outline what the state government and security agencies were doing to contain the situation and provide relief to the affected communities.

“As Governor of this state, it is a matter of profound regret for me that our considerable investments in security are yet to manifest in the defeat or at least the considerable degradation of the criminals that menace our people. We have consistently supported the federal security agencies deployed to our state with logistics and equipment”

“Apart from these recurrent expenses, the Kaduna State Government has undertaken capital expenditure to provide facilities that can multiply the capacity of security agencies to deter crime and conduct effective investigations of those that do occur”

He also said unconventional approach was required to enable the state government to better protect communities.

” It is clear to us that these considerable investments require structural changes in the security sector for their effectiveness. Citizens who have been affected by crime and insecurity are not interested in the distinctions between the federal and state governments in terms of their powers over security”

Malam Nasiru Elrufai assured everyone that the state government is working assiduously to solve the problem and solicited forsupport and prayers for the security agencies to address the problem.

While presenting the report, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan said the quarterly report covered the aspects of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, attacks and reprisal attacks.

Aruwan said 8553 animals were rustled across the state in the second quarter of this year, adding that, 774 people were kidnapped in which Kaduna Central had the highest figured of the affected people with 555 .

He also revealed that 222 deaths linked to the banditry, violent attacks, killings, reprisals and Communal clashes were recorded stressing that, Kaduna Central accounted for 159 deaths out of the figure.

The commissioner also stated that, the security problem poses threat to food security, education, imminent collapse of the rural economy among others, saying that Government and security agencies are making concerted effort to contain all forms of insecurity.

Mr Samuel Aruwan gave an assurance that Government would continue to seek active collaboration of citizens in the fight against banditry through prompt volunteering of useful information on suspicious activities for action.

Some members of the state Executive Council, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmad Nubu Bamali, Speaker Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Zailani and security agencies attended the event.
