The Nigeria Customs Service CGC Strike Force Team, Zone B,says it has impounded Contraband items of Duty paid Value of 786,911,648 in the last three Months in kano and Jigawa Axis.
The Strike Force Coordinator Deputy Comptroller Oseni Olorukoba disclosed this while displaying the seized items to journalist in Kano.
The Deputy Comptroller explained that the contraband items seized items from smugglers, includes exotic vehicles, re-bagged para-boiled long grain rice, vegetable oil, Second Hand Clothes and foreign tomatoes, with a total street value of N786, 911, 648.
The Coordinator of the Zone B Customs Strike Force explained that operatives of the service impounded a black Mercedes Benz Jeep 2021 model, disguised, with a Diplomatic plate number to beat Customs, but failed and were aprehended by there officials .
“There is no hiding place for smugglers, whose stock in trade is to deprive the Federal Government of the expected revenue from imported items”
The Deputy Comptroller noted that the street value of the seized Black Mercedes Benz Jeep, 2021 model, was 63 million Naira.
“If he had not been caught, he would have deprived Nigeria of the payment of 35 per cents Customs duty to the Federal Government.”
”Now that the driver, who drove the vehicle has been caught, the real owner will not only forfeit the Vehicle to the Federal Government, but would be prosecuted at the end of investigations”
He maintained that even though the owner of the Mercedes Benz Jeep was at large his personnel were working Asidiously in ensuring that the culprit were Arrested and Prosecuted.
Deputy Comptroller Oseni Olorukoba said other contraband items impounded, includes, 410 cartons of foreign Macroni, 294 bales of second hand clothes, 307 cartons of foreign pairs of shoes, 527 cartons of foreign soap, six and two units of trucks respectively.
