The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State chapter, says over 1,000 patients benefited from a free medical outreach in Bunkure Local Government Area of the state.

The chairman of the association, Dr Abubakar Nagoma Usman, disclosed this in Kano.

He explained that the outreach involved the treatment of patients and the distribution of free drugs, eyeglasses and other medical supplies to improve access to healthcare services.

Dr Nagoma said that despite the busy schedules of medical practitioners and funding challenges, the association mobilised resources to complement government efforts in the healthcare sector.

He commended the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and the Joud Alkhairi Foundation for partnering with the association to ensure the success of the exercise.

The NMA chairman called on wealthy individuals, corporate organisations and governments at all levels to sustain their support for the association to achieve its objectives of improving healthcare delivery.

He also expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that contributed to the successful conduct of the outreach, assuring residents of the association’s continued commitment to serving humanity.

In their separate remarks, the Deputy Speaker of Bunkure LGA Mukhtar Ahmad Auwal; the Chief Imam of Bunkure, Shuaibu Alhassan; and a representative of the minister Umar Ubale Musa, commended the NMA for its dedication to improving the well-being of the people.

Some beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the association for providing free medical services.

Radio Nigeria reports that the outreach formed part of activities marking this year’s Physicians’ Week.
