The Kano State House of Assembly has passed four bills seeking to establish colleges of health sciences and technology in Rogo and Bebeji Local Government Areas, alongside a College of Public and Allied Health Sciences and Technology in the state.
The bills were considered during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, after scaling second reading and consideration in the committee of the whole house.
Speaking to Newsmen shortly after plenary, Speaker Falgore explained that the proposed institutions would play a vital role in training mid-level healthcare professionals, strengthening primary healthcare services and addressing the healthcare needs of Kano State’s growing population.
He noted that the establishment of the colleges would also ease pressure on existing health training institutions and provide more opportunities for students to acquire healthcare-related education closer to their communities.
The speaker stressed that the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce and improve access to quality health services.
Falgore expressed optimism that the proposed institutions would contribute to improving healthcare delivery in Kano State and support the development of skilled health personnel.
He added that the bills would be forwarded to the state governor for assent, paving the way for further action towards establishing the institutions and improving healthcare education in the state.
