Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has commenced a four-day training programme on basic computer hardware and software for 75 participants drawn from across the state.

The training, being held at the Government Girls Arabic Secondary School (GGASS), Gusau, is aimed at strengthening the digital skills of teachers and education management personnel in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Ibrahim Musa Maizare says the participants comprises 50 teachers and 25 Education Management Information System (EMIS) personnel from Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of ZSUBEB, Professor Nasir Garba Anka described the training as timely, considering the growing importance of technology in teaching, learning, education administration, data management and reporting.

Professor Anka stressed that teachers and education administrators needed basic computer skills to effectively perform their duties in the digital age.

He explained that the hardware component of the training would cover the identification and functions of computer components, including the CPU, HDD/SSD, motherboard, ports and peripheral devices, as well as basic computer maintenance and measures to prevent overheating.

The Executive chairman urged the participants to be attentive and actively participate in the practical sessions, while encouraging them to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues in schools and LGEAs.

Declaring the training open, the UBEC State Coordinator in Zamfara, Malam Tanimu Abdulkadir, who represented the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, commended ZSUBEB for organising the programme.

Malam Tanimu noted that many desktop computers and laptops had been abandoned in offices and schools over the years due to minor technical faults, stressing that, the training would help address the problem through hands-on practical sessions.

He expressed confidence that by the end of the programme, participants would acquire the skills required to install, maintain and troubleshoot computers independently.

In his remarks, the Director of Data, Digital Platform and Analytics, Dalhatu Muhammad, urged the participants to be punctual, attentive and fully committed throughout the training.

He encouraged them to practise the skills acquired and support one another in applying the knowledge gained during the programme.
