Kebbi State Government has welcomed the Nigerian Army’s decision to strengthen its presence in the state through the establishment and operationalisation of three strategic military formations.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed BK, stated this in a statement issued in Kebbi, describing the development as a demonstration of the Army’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the state and the country.
He said the establishment of the 28 Armoured Brigade and Garrison in Birnin Kebbi would strengthen security operations, enhance operational capacity and ensure a timely response to emerging threats within Kebbi and adjoining areas of neighbouring states.
The Commissioner also commended the contributions of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), hunters and community-based vigilante groups towards protecting lives and property across the state.
He said the operationalisation of the 281 Tank Battalion in Yauri and the 381 Artillery Regiment in Kaoje would further strengthen counter-insurgency and combat operations across Kebbi.
According to him, the development followed the sustained efforts of Governor Nasir Idris to secure additional military deployments, manpower, equipment and armament to address the state’s evolving security challenges.
Yakubu Ahmed assured that the state government would continue to provide necessary support and cooperation to security agencies operating in Kebbi.
He called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information on the activities, locations and movements of bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements.
The Commissioner also commended Governor Nasir Idris for what he described as responsive leadership and urged residents to support ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state.
