The Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government Council, Dr Muhammad Uba Bluider, has led an environmental sanitation exercise across the area to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr Bluider said his administration was committed to reducing malaria and other communicable diseases through improved environmental sanitation and proper waste management.
He said the council remained open to collaboration with government agencies, organisations and other stakeholders committed to environmental protection and public health.
The chairman commended the Jigawa State Government, under Governor Umar Namadi, for introducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, describing it as an important step towards improving environmental hygiene across the state.
Dr Bluider assured the state government of the council’s continued cooperation with relevant authorities to promote the development and wellbeing of residents.
The Head of Environmental Sanitation in the area, Malam Baffa Abdullahi, and the officer in charge of the programme, Malam Saminu Ubaye, said the exercise covered public places and involved the removal of refuse and other environmental hazards.
They said areas covered included Kasuwani, the Motor Park, Audu Bako Road and Salihi Road.
The officials commended the council chairman for providing adequate working equipment and personally monitoring the exercise at various sanitation sites.
Also speaking, the State Supervisor, Malama Tsoho Katanga, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
She assured residents that relevant authorities would continue to work together to strengthen environmental sanitation and promote a cleaner and healthier environment across Jigawa State.
