Following the recommendations of the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, Governor Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.

Dr. Lawan succeeds his father, HRH Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a distinguished 46-year reign.

Until his appointment as Emir of Gumel, Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Malam Umar Namadi expressed gratitude to the kingmakers of the Gumel Emirate Council, under the Chairmanship of Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro, and his members.

He also thanked their Royal Highnesses the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim, and Dutse, who constitute the state council of Chiefs, for their invaluable advice during the selection process.

The Governor, on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, congratulates the new Emir on his appointment and wishes him many years of successful service to Gumel Emirate and nigeria at large.

The state government extends its deepest condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel Emirate, the State’s Council of Chiefs, and all citizens of thr State during this period of immense grief following the passing of late HRH Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.

“We pray that Allah SWT forgive his sins, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant the family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. May Allah admit him into Jannatul Firdaus together with our departed parents and loved ones”
