The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated a newly constructed solar-powered borehole, overhead tank and toilets at cottage hospital in Pindiga community of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The project which was implemented under the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral, Idi Abbas special intervention quick impact project , was to honour Rear Admiral Usman Faruk.

The Chief of Naval Staff who was represented by the Director Planning, Naval Headquarters, Rear Adm, Adamu Yahaya, said the project was aimed at strengthening civil-military cooperations to addressing critical community needs and improving the well-being of Nigerians.

He said portable water remained an essential needs, and driver of socio-economic development.

The Naval Chief pointed out that  the provision of water supply to the cottage hospital would improve the quality of life of residents, and contribute to the development of the community.

Abbas commended Rear Adm Usman Faruk for facilitating the project, which will bring relief to the people, while urging beneficiaries to protect and maintain the facilities for maximum benefit.

Also speaking at the event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state commended the Nigerian Navy for the project which, according to him will go a long way in improving the living condition of the people.

Represented by the Commissioner of Special Duties, Alh. Shehu Abdullahi, the governor noted that the supply of water to the cottage hospital will play a critical role in improving the health of both the patients and medical personnel.

In a remark the Emir of Pindiga , Alh. Muhammad Sayoji, expressed gratitude for the intervention, which has brought succour to the people ,who had suffered prolong period of water shortage prior to the Implementation of the project.

The Project facilitator, Rear Adm , Usman Faruk, maintained that embarking on the water project came following consultation with elders of the community as the community lacked fresh water due to the presence of limestone in the region.

He stressed that the challenge had led to health deterioration, dental colouration and poor life expectancy of the residents which prompted the implementation of the project .
