The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, L-PRESS
has carried out a two day training workshop aimed at addressing farmers harders decades lingering conflicts in the North West zone,held in Sokoto.

Speaking at the end of the training,the L-Press Project Coordinator, in Sokoto, Mr Surajo Abubakar, said participants were trained on practical skills for identifying emerging disputes, facilitating dialogue, supporting peaceful settlements and strengthening community-based mechanisms to conflict prevention and resolution.


He said the participants included traditional rulers, harders, farming communities and government officials gained knowledge on alternative disputes and conflicts resolution mechanism .

Abubakar said the ultimate objective was to identify practical approaches that can be adapted to the realities as measured of success that could ultimately be the extent to which the knowledge gained is translated into practical action in the state.

The L- Press Coordinator argued that Sustainable peace requires the collective efforts of farmers, pastorals, traditional institutions, local government authorities, security agencies, civil society organizations, and other community stakeholders for socio security and economic development in the state.

He added that L-Press remain committed to interventions that strengthens livestock productivity, resilience, peaceful existence, and sustainable livelihoods.

Earlier, the Sokoto state Commissioner for Livestock and Fishery Development, Alhaji Bello Wamakko, reiterated state government commitment to supporting livestock farmers through dams constructions, new cattle routes and other sustainable programmes for effective service delivery.

The Commissioner said the state government rehabilitated the destroyed areas encroached and provided inputs to pastorals at subsidized rate across the state.

He enjoined traditional rulers and other groups leaders to live up to the expectations on sustaining the knowledge and it’s application to resolve crises and differences in their respective communities.

Radio Nigeria in the state report that a total of one hundred participants were drawn from the 23 local Government Areas of the state.
