The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to providing special intervention impact projects under the Chief of Naval Staff Special Intervention Projects Scheme, with a view to improving the well-being of the people.

 

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, stated this during the commissioning of the Chief of Naval Staff Special Intervention Impact Projects Scheme in honour of Rear Admiral Aliyu Ahmed Gaya (rtd.) in Gaya community, Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.

 

Abbas, represented by the Chief of Naval Safety and Standards, Rear Admiral Pakiribo Solomon Anabraba, urged the beneficiaries of the projects to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper utilisation and maintenance.

 

He stressed the importance of protecting public infrastructure to enable the intended beneficiaries to continue deriving maximum benefits from the projects.

 

 

The facilitator of the project, Rear Adm. Aliyu Ahmed Gaya (rtd.), said the intervention involved the provision of solar-powered boreholes to selected communities in Gaya Local Government Area.

 

 

Gaya said access to potable water was fundamental to human activities and essential for improving the health and well-being of communities.

 

Also speaking, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, represented by the Dangaladiman Gaya, Alhaji Abdullahi Nayaya Gaya, commended the retired naval officer for initiating the project and contributing to the development of his community.

 

 

The three solar-powered boreholes are located in Unguwar UMC, Kofar Gabari and Alawa communities.

 

The event was attended by the Commandant, Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa, Commodore Ahmad Abubakar Madawaki; Chairman of Gaya Local Government Area, Mahmud Tajo Sani, represented by the Administrative Secretary of the council, Sani Abdu Kademi, as well as family members, relatives and other well-wishers of the facilitator.
