The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for receiving the Award of Excellence in Security Governance from the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS).

Waiya, in a goodwill message issued to mark the recognition, described the award as well-deserved, saying it reflects the Kano State Government’s commitment to strengthening security, protecting lives and property, promoting peace and creating an enabling environment for sustainable socio-economic development.

The Commissioner said the recognition went beyond celebrating the governor’s leadership, as it also acknowledged the government’s strategic approach to addressing security challenges in the state.

He noted that security remained a critical foundation for the development and prosperity of any society, adding that the Kano State Government had continued to support security agencies and other stakeholders in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

Waiya also highlighted the government’s efforts to address the root causes of insecurity while promoting greater community participation in crime prevention.

According to him, security cannot be achieved by government or security agencies alone, but requires collective efforts from traditional and religious institutions, civil society organisations, the private sector, the media and citizens.

The commissioner commended the ISSS for recognising and honouring leadership committed to security governance and public safety, saying the award would encourage continuous improvement in security administration and inspire other leaders to prioritise the safety and welfare of citizens.

He further praised the institute for its contributions to professional security education, strategic research, capacity development and stakeholder engagement, describing these as essential to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

Waiya reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to collaborating with security institutions, professional bodies, academia, communities and other stakeholders to build a safer, more peaceful and prosperous state.

While congratulating Governor Yusuf on the award, the commissioner urged him to see the recognition as further encouragement to sustain initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security and development across Kano State.

He also wished the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies a successful conference and continued progress in its contribution to security governance and strategic development in Nigeria.
