The four day Bago North Central Badminton Championship twenty twenty six organized by the Niger State Badminton Association is to be declared closed tomorrow by the State Chairman of the Association, Mohammed Nma Kolo at a ceremony in Minna.
The even which was flagged off on Wednesday had in attendance participants from six states of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Plateau and the host Niger, in the North Central and the Federal Capital territory Abuja.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen in Minna after the opening of the championship at the Minna Sports Complex, Niger state Chairman Badminton Association, Mohammed Nma Kolo said he intend to make the event for North Central states as an annual fiesta that will be organized every year.
This he said is part of effort to catch them young, and take Badminton back to the grassroots, as sport must not be left for the few insisting that when they invest in the grassroots the podium will take care of itself.
Mohammed Nma Kolo who is also the North Central Zonal Coordinator, for the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, however explained that it would also address the problems of youth roaming the street and cases of insecurity by engaging the youth in sports to make them responsible leaders of tomorrow.
The Niger state Chairman Badminton Association who called for private sector support in the development of sports also commended Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for his untiring support and other stakeholders, stressing that price money will be presented to some winners at the end of the championship to boost their morale.
