Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State have adopted Alh Umar Dauda Daura as the party’s candidate to run for the senate seat for Daura Senatorial zone.
Alhaji Umar Dauda emerged in a consensus agreement reached at a meeting of party stakeholders from the zone held in Daura.
The meeting which was chaired by the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Sen. Yakubu Lado, was attended by local government and zonal party executives and stakeholders from the twelve local government areas in the zone.
Meanwhile, the co-contender, Alh Aliyu Abdulmumin, withdrew from the race and threw his weight behind Alh Umar Dauda who he described as having the qualities to competently represent the zone at the Senate.
Alh. Abbulmumini said he will serve as the Director General of the Senatorial campaign in the zone while urging local government and ward executives and members of the party to mobilize support ahead of the elections scheduled for early next year.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Dauda Daura thanked his co-contetant, Aminu Abbulmumini, for supporting his candidacy and PDP leaders and members for their sustained support for the party and its candidates.
He unveiled a five-point agenda with focus on human capital development, education, economic empowerment, infrastructure, and the promotion of transparent and inclusive governance.
“If given the chance, I will put the people first by providing quality representation for them with special focus on education, economic empowerment, inclusive governance and massive infrastructure development for our zone, Daura zone”, he said.
In his remarks, the PDP governorship flag bearer, Senator Yakubu Lado, commended the contestants for their show of sportsmanship and putting the unity and progress of the party ahead of personal ambitions.
He called on leaders, stakeholders and members of the party across the twelve local government areas of the zone to unite and mobilize support for the party in the bid to reclaim the state which used to be a PDP stronghold.
He listed state and federal projects executed by past PDP administrations in the zone to include the Katsina-Daura road, Daura Maiadua road, township roads and drainages across Daura, Zango, Mashi, Bindawa, Kusada and Kankia and the first phase of Sandamu-Baure road among others.
He appealed to people of Daura zone and the state as a whole to support PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections to avail the party a chance to continue to implement people-centered policies and programs for them.
