Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a 30-day final ultimatum to the Federal Government to conclude the re-negotiation process and pay withheld entitlements to avoid an indefinite strike.

The President of the SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, made this known at its 54th National Executive Council meeting held at Ekiti State University, Ekiti State.

Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim said that failure on the part of the government to address the matter, the Union and the Joint Action Committee of Non-Academic staff union of Educational Associated institutions NASU, will commence industrial action.

Comrade Ibrahim condemned the persistent delays in the payment of salaries of staff in Federal and some State universities, as well as the non-payment of approved increments and other withheld entitlements.

The Union demanded the immediate settlement of all outstanding salary-related issues, the establishment of a reliable and unified salary payment structure, and the adoption of the Remita platform for payment of salaries to university workers because of its seamless and reliable nature.

SSANU urged the government to immediately reconvene the renegotiation process; prompt resolution of salary delays, withheld salaries, and increments; fair disbursement of Earned Allowances to all eligible workers, among others.

Comrade Ibrahim says the Union remains firmly united and fully prepared to defend the rights, welfare, and dignity of its members.

The Union expressed displeasure over the exclusion of Inter-University Centres and Research Institutes from the disbursement of N50 Billion earned allowances and insists that all eligible categories of workers must be included without discrimination.
