Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the people of Zamfara State and Nigerians at large that Federal Government is working assiduously to address insecurity across the country.

He gave the assurance while addressing thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters during the official reception of Governor Dauda Lawal into the APC in Zamfara State.

The Vice President said lasting peace would soon be restored in Zamfara and across the country.

He also commiserated with victims of banditry in the region, assuring them that sustainable peace remains a top priority of the Federal Government.

According to him, the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the APC will further strengthen the party, considering the political influence of Abdulazeez Yari and Bello Matawalle.

Kashim Shettima added that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would have little or no impact in Zamfara State, noting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its relevance in the state.

He thanked the people of Zamfara for coming out in large numbers to show their support.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, assured Governor Lawal of the full backing of APC governors nationwide.

Uzodinma described the APC as a progressive and forward-moving party, adding that, the massive support witnessed at the event reflects the people’s acceptance of the party’s development agenda under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We are with you. We will support and encourage you. All APC governors will stand by you to ensure that the people enjoy meaningful development,” he said.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, said Zamfara State is now united, with no visible opposition remaining.

He noted that the APC is firmly established across all levels in the state and congratulated Governor Lawal and party members on the development.

He urged the governor to treat all citizens equally without discrimination and called on stakeholders to support his administration for the overall progress of the state.

Earlier, former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, pledged their full support to the APC and Governor Lawal’s re-election bid in 2027.

They also urged their supporters to rally behind the governor to ensure continued development in the state.

Matawalle further announced that he would not contest in the 2027 elections.

In his response, Governor Dauda Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining key developmental programmes, particularly in the areas of security, education and job creation.

The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Yilwatda Nentawe handed over the flag of the APC to Zamfara Governor Dr Dauda Lawal.

Meanwhile, the Vice President was received by several governors, including Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), and Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto).

Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Senate President, members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, party chieftains and other dignitaries.
