General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Lieutenant-General Waidi Shuaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, have arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, as part of renewed military efforts to tackle the resurgence of terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-East.

Their deployment follows a directive by President Bola Tinubu, demanding that the Service Chiefs relocate to the region after Monday’s coordinated attacks signaled a resurgence of insurgency.

On arrival, the senior military officers were received by the Theatre Commander, Major-General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

The visit comes less than two weeks after the Chief of Army Staff conducted an operational tour of the Theatre Command Headquarters, underscoring ongoing military engagements aimed at strengthening security operations in the region.
