The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government SSG, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, says membership of the APC in Zamfara State has risen to 158,697, barely 3 days after the reopening of the party’s e-membership registration portal following the defection of Dauda Lawal to the party.
He made this known while supervising the ongoing e-membership registration exercise at six registration centres across Gusau and Bungudu Local Government Areas.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the SSG, Suleman Ahmad Tudu, noted that Malam Nakwada expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of supporters of Governor Dauda Lawal to register with the APC.
He described the development as a clear indication of public support for the governor’s decision to join the party.
According to the statement, about 60,987 new members registered within three days of the portal reopening, in addition to the 97,710 members who had earlier registered before the governor’s defection.
“This brings the total APC membership in the state to 158,697 as at 7:30 p.m. on March 15”
“On average, about 20,329 people are registering daily, reflecting what officials described as growing grassroots support for the party in the state”
Malam Nakwada expressed optimism that the party would meet its membership target before the March 25 deadline if the current momentum is sustained.
While in Bungudu, the SSG also facilitated a brief virtual interaction between the enthusiastic registrants and Governor Dauda Lawal, who is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the lesser Hajj.
During the interaction, Governor Lawal commended his supporters for their resilience and impressive turnout despite the harsh weather and the Ramadan fast.
He reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to serving the best interests of the people of Zamfara State.
The SSG was accompanied by the State Coordinator for the registration exercise, Hon Naziru Ibrahim and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr Ahmad Garba Yandi among other officials.
