Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal for institutions that formally requested additional time for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The decision is aimed at allowing eligible students in those institutions to complete their applications.

According to NELFUND, the extension applies strictly to institutions that submitted official requests seeking more time to enable their students to finalise applications through the fund’s online portal.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring wider access to the student loan programme for eligible Nigerian students.

He said the extension reflects the fund’s efforts to support institutions and ensure that no qualified student is excluded from the scheme due to administrative or time constraints.

“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” Mr Sawyerr said.

NELFUND encourages all eligible students in the affected institutions to take advantage of the extension and complete their applications via the official NELFUND portal.

He said NELFUND remains committed to transparency, accountability, and delivering sustainable student financing solutions that remove financial barriers to higher education in Nigeria
