Nigerian authorities have begun assisting citizens seeking to leave Iran amid the ongoing crisis in the region, with some evacuees already escorted across the border into Armenia.

Officials of the Embassy of Nigeria in Iran facilitated the safe passage of the citizens to the Armenian border as part of efforts to ensure their safety.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the development in a statement.

She noted that Nigerian government officials remain on standby to assist more citizens who may wish to leave the country as tensions continue to rise in the region.

According to her, arrangements have been made to receive and support Nigerians who cross into safer neighbouring countries.

Some willing Nigerians seeking safety have been escorted across the Armenian border by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran for safe passage, At the moment, no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the war, and government officials remain at the border to receive all who wish to leave

She also assured that no Nigerian in Iran has so far been reported as affected by the conflict.

The evacuation effort, she added, is part of Nigeria’s broader response to the security situation in the Middle East as authorities continue to monitor developments and provide assistance to citizens in affected areas.
