The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a suspect allegedly in possession of a large cache of live ammunition.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, says the arrest was part of ongoing efforts by the command to curb criminal activities and restore normalcy across the state.

According to the statement, the suspect, 25-year-old Mannir Adam of Yankuzo village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was arrested on Tuesday night during a routine patrol along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Road at the Yankara checkpoint.

It explains that the suspect was intercepted while riding a red Boxer motorcycle.

A search conducted by the patrol team led to the recovery of eight hundred rounds of AK-47 7.62 millimetre live ammunition concealed inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect was travelling from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State and was heading to Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The statement notes that the suspect and the exhibits have been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, with a view to arresting other members of the suspected criminal network.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime and called on members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
