The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Waidi Shaibu has urged Nurses and Midwives to apply their knowledge and skills towards adding value to national security architecture.
He made the call during the opening ceremony of a week-long Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme for Nurses and Midwives held at the Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna State.
Lt General Waidi Shaibu noted that the professionalism of nurses and midwives serves as a bridge between ill-health and recovery, hence the need for a motivated and skilled nursing workforce within military medical facilities.
Represented by the General Officer Commanding One division, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Wase, the Army Chief urged the participants to use the opportunity to sharpen their skills in view of the dynamic landscape of medical services.
In his goodwill message, the acting Commander Medical Corps, Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola, highlighted the critical role of nurses in supporting operations, emergency response and routine healthcare services.
Represented by the acting Chief Medical Director of 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Brigadier General Godwin Ogoh, the acting Corps Commander commended the nurses and midwives for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty.
In her remarks, Director Nursing Services at the Army headquarters, Colonel Juliana Awuto disclosed that military nurses are expected to intensify health surveillance, health education, mental health support, disease prevention strategies and community engagement in their daily practice.
She pointed out that the Programme was designed to strengthen their competence in public health approaches, policy implementation, leadership and innovative strategies that ensure no soldier, no family member and community under their care are left behind.
The theme of this year’s Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme is *Public Health Nursing and Health Equity: Leaving No One Behind*
