Jigawa State Government says it has approved over ₦853 million for the purchase of 96 housing units from the Federal Government.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, stated this shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Dutse.

According to him, the council approved the purchase of the houses from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

He pointed out that, the acquisition of the housing units is aimed at addressing accommodation needs within the state, particularly for public servants and other eligible beneficiaries.

He said, the initiative forms part of Governor Umar Namadi administration’s 12 Points agenda for broader housing and urban development strategy designed to promote decent shelter, reduce housing deficits, and enhance living standards as part of the administration’s sustained efforts to expand access to affordable housing and improve the welfare of citizens.

He further explained that the council has also approved over 914 million naira for additional works on the ongoing construction of the Chuwasu– Chakwaikwaiwa–Zango Maje to connect Yan Dutse-Chori Feeder Road.

Sagir said, the additional works became necessary following further technical assessments and project reviews aimed at enhancing the structural integrity, drainage systems, and overall longevity of the road.

He said the Council noted that the scope adjustment will ensure the project meets the required engineering standards and adequately serves the growing transportation needs of the benefiting communities.

The Commissioner added that, with this approval, the revised contract sum for the project now stands at over 5.4 Billion naira, adding that, the Chuwasu– Chakwaikwaiwa–Zango Maje Feeder road is a critical rural infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, enhance access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities, and stimulate socio-economic development within the corridor.
