Kano state Commissioner Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), Nura Ma’aji has conducted an on-site inspection of an ongoing erosion control project in Rimi town, Sumaila LGA

The project, supervised by the Kano State Ministry for Environment and Climate Change, is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable communities from the devastating effects of seasonal flooding and soil erosion.

It includes the construction of concrete drainage channels and reinforcement of embankments, covering areas from Rimi Special Primary School to nearby riverbanks and adjoining settlements.

During the inspection, the Civil Infrastructure Department of the MPPPME commended engineers and contractors for the progress achieved, noting that the work aligns with the approved Bill of Quantities, project specifications, and stipulated timelines.

Comrade Sumaila emphasized that effective erosion control infrastructure is critical to safeguarding homes, farmlands, roads, and public facilities from recurring environmental damage.

He also highlighted the importance of proactive monitoring to ensure value for money and quality delivery in line with government standards.

Residents of Rimi town expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.

They noted that years of unchecked erosion and heavy rainfall had caused significant losses, expressing optimism that the project would provide lasting relief.

The Commissioner appealed to residents to support government efforts by maintaining the new infrastructure.

He stressed that the erosion control initiative is part of the broader environmental and infrastructural development agenda of Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening resilience against climate-related challenges across Kano State.

As part of the monitoring tour, Comrade Sumaila also inspected a total of 10 projects across Takai and Sumaila Local Government Areas, including Neighbourhood Security Watch Divisions, five-kilometre road projects, and the first and second phases of the Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of Classrooms initiative.
