A civil society organisation CSO, Know Your Neighbor Community Development Initiative, has convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting aimed at sanitising land transactions and house rental processes in Kano State.
The roundtable meeting, held at the NUJ secretariat Kano, brought together key players in the legal and real estate sectors to promote transparency, accountability and regulatory compliance in property dealings.
Participants at the meeting included the Chairman of the Association of Land Buyers and Sellers, representatives of LASPADA, officials of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), members of the Nigerian Bar Association, and other stakeholders in land administration and housing management.
Deliberations focused on persistent challenges affecting the sector, particularly inadequate documentation, fraudulent practices, and the exploitation of regulatory loopholes that expose citizens to financial loss and security risks.
Speakers at the forum stressed the urgent need to strengthen the regulatory framework governing land and housing transactions to ensure that all property dealings are properly documented and officially registered.
They noted that weak documentation processes have continued to fuel disputes, fraud, and insecurity.
Participants also proposed the establishment of a comprehensive and reliable database system to verify property ownership, improve due diligence, and safeguard the rights of buyers, sellers and tenants.
Stakeholders expressed collective commitment to supporting reforms that would restore credibility and order to the real estate sector.
They emphasised that effective collaboration between government institutions, professional bodies and civil society organisations remains crucial to addressing irregularities in land and housing transactions.
The meeting further called for intensified public awareness campaigns to educate residents on the importance of complying with legal procedures before entering into property agreements.
The Know Your Neighbor Community Development Initiative described the engagement as a significant step toward building consensus on policy reforms that would strengthen regulation, enhance transparency and improve community security across Kano State.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining dialogue and partnerships aimed at ensuring long-term stability, fairness and trust in the property sector.
