The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the completion of the Kano-Katsina dual-carriage way which had been stagnated due to poor funding and compensation issues.

Speaking during an inspection of the road at Gidan Mutum Daya in Katsina State, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement, North-West, Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko-Yakassai, said the project has recorded significant progress despite the challenges.

He noted that already the 157-kilometre road construction has reached 27 per cent completion, with both lanes of Phase One of the project, stretching from Kano to Gidan Mutum Daya, already completed.

He pointed out that with improved funding from the federal government, the contractor will continue with critical sections of Phase Two of the project stretching from Gidan Mutum Daya to Katsina.

Tanko-Yakassai who described transportation infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth, said the Tinubu administration is aware of the strategic importance of the Kano-Katsina road in facilitating trade and other social and economic activities in the northwest zone.

In his remarks, the Federal Controller of Works in Katsina, Muhammad Idris, explained that the project had previously experienced slow progress due to funding challenges and compensation.

He however noted that recent release of funds by the federal government has significantly improved the pace of work, particularly on phase two of the project.

Meanwhile, the presidential aide along with his team also inspected a 2.4 kilometre erosion control project along the Marabar Kankara-Kankara road, a 1.4 km road along Maduru and inaugurated a culvert along Katstina-Dutsin-ma Road.

Yakassai also inspected the 17-km Unguwar Iliya-Tsiga-Bakori road construction which has been moving at a snail’s pace, with a call on the contractor handling the project to ensure its timely completion.
