The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has concluded all necessary arrangements for the conduct of bye-elections into the Kano State House of Assembly for the Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Area constituencies.
The bye-elections became necessary following the demise of the two lawmakers who represented the affected constituencies that passed away last year, creating vacancies in the state legislature.
Speaking with journalists in Kano, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Ambassador Abdullahi Zango, disclosed that more than ten political parties have indicated interest and will participate in the exercise.
Ambassador Zango assured that the Commission is fully prepared for the polls, stressing that arrangements and logistics have been put in top gear to guarantee a smooth, credible and hitch-free election.
The REC urged eligible voters in the affected constituencies to come out on election day to exercise their civic responsibility, assuring them that INEC is committed to providing a level playing field for all contestants.
He added that bye-elections will enable the affected constituencies to regain representation in the Kano State House of Assembly and strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots level.
