Kano State Fire Service says it has recorded 120 deaths resulting from fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents, and water-related incidents between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.
According to him, the agency also responded to a total of 838 emergency calls during the period.
He noted that, a breakdown of the emergency calls showed that 665 were fire incidents, 130 were rescue operations, while 43 were false alarm calls.
The statement further revealed that the Fire Service successfully saved 91 lives during the year under review.
Saminu pointed out that, despite the interventions, the Service recorded significant losses, with the estimated value of property destroyed put at ₦6.47 billion, while property worth about ₦15.32 billion was saved through prompt emergency responses.
The public relations officer hinted that the emergency responses were carried out across all 44 local government areas of the state through the Service’s 30 fire stations, under the leadership of the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas.
“The Fire Service expressed concern over the increase in residential fire incidents, which rose to 376 cases in 2025.”
The statement urged residents to adopt proper fire safety measures and exercise caution in handling fire-related activities to reduce avoidable disasters across the state.
