President Bola Tinubu has cautioned State Governors against violating the Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to Local Governments, warning that persistent non-compliance could attract direct federal intervention.

He stressed that the ruling must be respected and fully implemented to strengthen governance at the grassroots level.

The President issued the warning during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Tinubu expressed concern over the continued withholding of statutory allocations meant for local government councils by some state governments.

Tinubu noted that while he has chosen to be patient and respectful in engaging governors, the Federal Government retains the authority to enforce compliance.

He warned that if governors fail to act, the Federal Government may begin direct disbursement of local government funds from the Federation Account, in line with constitutional provisions and the Supreme Court’s directive.
