Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State has advocated for a single term tenure for state Governors in Nigeria instead of the current two terms tenure obtain in the country.
The Governor who stated this while inaugurating the Commissioners, Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Minna said he has been an advocate of one term tenure for Governor’s which will guarantee good governance and massive transformation.
Mohammed Umar Bago lamented that with the two terms tenure made it impossible for him to remove a government official even if he is performing below expectation due to the Governor’s second term bid ambition because of twenty twenty seven election, which he described as a serious challenge that ought to have been avoided.
The Governor who declared the twelfth of every December for the celebration of Women’s Day in Niger state, also unveiled the second phase of New Niger said in some years to come women in Niger State will occupy fifty percent for Chairmanship position up to the time when he said they will become Governor’s.
On the New Niger they are clamouring for, he said it was not rhetoric but to find what went wrong to retrace their steps and join in the building of New Niger where every Niger lites will be educated free, and also enroll drop out in schools, while a minute silence was observed for the missing school children in Papiri to be rescued, Niger state and Nigerian democracy.
They were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Niger state, Justice Halima Abdulmalik who was represented by Justice Maimuna Abubakar of the High Court six Minna, while the portfolios of the new Commissioners is expected soon.
