Jigawa State Ministry for Basic Education and its agencies have earmarked over ₦80 billion for capital and recurrent expenditures in the 2026 fiscal year.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, disclosed this while defending the new year budget proposal before the House Committee on Basic Education.

Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo 18 billion naira was allocated for the ministry while remaining money would be spread across the agencies under the basic education sector.

He explained that attention will be focused on the construction of new classes and the renovation of existing ones while textbooks, chairs and tables will be procured for improved teaching and learning process in the new year.

He said facilities such as toilets, water, security and electricity will be provided to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning as well as improved on access to education through enrollment and retention to complete the education cycle for children in the state.

Dr. Lawan Danzomo added that 4000 teachers will be employed under the J-Teach Programme.

According to him, 1,450 Batch A of the previous administration will be required to write examinations for absorption into the Civil Service on permanent basis in 2026.

In his remark, the Chairman of the Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Basic Education who is the member representing Fagam constituency, Alhaji Yahaya Zakari Kwarko, assured of his support and cooperation to achieve the desired objectives.

He prayed for the budget to impact positively on the basic education sector in the new year.
