House of Representatives has resolved to call for a joint security operation comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police, and other agencies to combat armed bandits in Kebbi State.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Alhaji Bello Abubakar Kaoje, a member from Kebbi State, on the recent attack and killing of three Nigeria Immigration Service personnel at the Bakin Ruwa Outpost in Bagudo Local Government Area.

In his lead debate, Alhaji Bello Ka’oje expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the once relatively peaceful Kebbi State, stressing that urgent action is needed to prevent further escalation of banditry and attacks on innocent Nigerians

The lawmaker, who lauded the Federal Government, the Kebbi State Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilantes for the rescue of the 24 schoolgirls earlier abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, stressed the need for the deployment of more security personnel to end banditry in Kebbi State.

He noted that Bagudo Local Government Area in Kebbi State shares an external boundary with the Republic of Benin and hosts a Nigeria Immigration Service outpost at Bakin Ruwa, a Nigeria Customs Service outpost at Maje, and several Nigeria Police posts across the area, all of which deserve adequate security attention from the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, the House urged the Federal Government to provide adequate compensation to the families of the slain officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, and Nigeria Police Force who were killed by bandits, in the interest of justice and humanity.

The lawmakers also called on the authorities of Department of State Services (DSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to strengthen intelligence coordination and cross-border surveillance along the Nigeria–Benin Republic corridor, especially within the Bagudo L.G.A, Kebbi State axis.

The House mandated the joint Committees on Air Force, Army, Defence, Police Affairs, National Security & Intelligence, Interior, Customs and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance with the above resolution.
