Former President Goodluck Jonathan has briefed President Bola Tinubu on the outcome of his mission to Guinea-Bissau.
Jonathan visited the State House, Abuja, on Saturday evening following his return from Guinea-Bissau, where he led the AU–ECOWAS Election Observation Mission.
His stay in the country was extended after the military announced that it had taken control of government institutions during the presidential election process.
Having returned to Abuja on Thursday, the former President met with President Tinubu for a closed-door briefing.
Speaking afterward with State House correspondents, Jonathan emphasized the need for ECOWAS Heads of State and Government to adopt constructive diplomatic engagement with the military authorities now in control of the former Portuguese colony.
He urged regional leaders to prioritize dialogue as a means of restoring constitutional order and ensuring stability in Guinea-Bissau.
