The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 58-year-old woman, Besirat Tijjani from Oyo State, and her alleged accomplice, 45-year-old Habibu Idris from Jigawa State, over the suspected trafficking of three young girls.

In a statement, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended following a heated argument between them over the payment arrangement for the girls.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that Habibu Idris had been trafficking girls from Jigawa State for ₦10,000 each, but on this occasion demanded ₦15,000 per girl, which Besirat allegedly refused to pay, leading to a public altercation that attracted attention.

Dr. Mujahid disclosed that the victims, 14-year-old Rashida Hussaini, 14-year-old Kuburiyya, and 17 year-old Rukayya Umar , all from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State were rescued after concerned individuals at Fagge Motor Park alerted Hisbah operatives.

He added that the suspects have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution.

The Deputy Commander General urged parents to stop sending their children away in search of greener pastures, stressing that such decisions often expose them to exploitation and trafficking networks.
