The Senate of the University of Jos has elected Professor Charles Onwochei as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

The decision was made during the 4th Special Senate Meeting for the 2024/2025 academic session held at the university.

A statement by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications of the Institution Mr Emmanuel Madugu on behalf of the Registrar Dr Rejoice Songden, said Professor Onwochei replaces Professor Joash Amupitan who is now Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Professor Onwochei, from the Department of Religion and Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts, will serve a two-year renewable term.

His appointment takes effect immediately but remains subject to confirmation by the University Governing Council.

Professor Onwochei is a renowned scholar in Ethics and Philosophy and has held key positions within the institution, which includes Head of the Department of Religion and Philosophy and as Director of the Directorate of Basic and Advanced Studies.

He hails from Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State and is widely respected for his academic and administrative experience.
