Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has called on the federal government to investigate the withdrawal of military personnel attached to Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of the Zuru Emirate.

The governor made the statement while receiving executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who visited the state following the abduction of the schoolgirls.

He explained that the military personnel were on duty at the school until around 3:00 a.m. but withdrew at approximately 3:45 a.m., raising questions about whether the withdrawal was under orders.

The governor described the incident as deeply saddening.

Governor Idris commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking steps to ensure the rescue of the abducted students, including sending the Vice President and the Minister of State for Defence to Kebbi.

He also urged residents to intensify prayers in mosques and churches for lasting peace in the state and across the country.

Earlier, NLC National President Comrade Joe Ajaero said the delegation came to commiserate with the Kebbi government and people over the abduction of 25 students from the school.

He expressed solidarity with the students, their families, and the state government.

Ajaero also praised Kebbi State for being among the few in Nigeria where salaries, pensions, and other social interventions are regularly paid, and where remarkable infrastructural development has been recorded consistently.
