Federal government says it will set benchmarks that will govern production and use of agricultural machinery in the country .

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari,stated this at the 45th annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE) held in Ilorin.

Senator Kyari proposed establishment of Agriculture Mechanization service centre in each of the country’s geopolitical zones for training, repairs and coordination of agriculture technologies.

According to him beyond acquisition, the focus remains on standardization, local assembly and maintenance systems to ensure that every machine deployed is fit for purpose and supported by skilled technicians.

The minister explained that Nigerian farmers deserve home-grown technologies, “that are developed with deep understanding of its soils, crops, as well as the scale of farming.
