Kano State’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) Programme has trained and sensitized over 800 members of Farmer Organizations (FOs) on nutrition fundamentals to promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture and healthier communities.
The two-day training took place in Kadawa, along Zaria Road, and in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Zainab Lawan Gwadabe, State Gender and Social Safeguard Officer for SAPZ KSPIU, said the programme aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of key nutrition concepts, including food groups, dietary diversity, and the link between agriculture and nutrition.
Dr. Gwadabe explained that the programme plans to implement a cascading training model, enabling participants to train other farmers and extend nutrition knowledge across rural communities, fostering positive behaviour change.
The training, organized in two phases during the programme’s third and fourth quarters, focused on dietary diversity, balanced diets, and the connection between agricultural practices and nutrition outcomes.
She added that the initiative supports SAPZ’s broader objective of integrating nutrition education into agricultural activities to achieve sustainable food security and improve livelihoods in Kano State.
