The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC has organized a roundtable engagement in Akure the Ondo State capital with State Attorneys-General in the south-western states of the country .

 

This is aimed at strengthening the subnational collaboration in advancing the national Anti-Corruption Strategy and to promote coordinated efforts among justice sector stakeholders in the region.

 

Speaking at the engagement with the theme “institutional Integrity and regional cooperation: the role of Attorneys-General

ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu expressed the commission’s commitment to tackling corruption across all tiers of government.

 

Dr Aliyu who described the fight against corruption as the responsibility of all called on other relevant stakeholders to assist in making the society corruption free.

 

Also his counterpart from the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr Abdullahi Bello who said the bureau had introduced digitized CCB form for public service to uphold ethics in service encouraged the attorneys-general to support government efforts at ridding the region of corruption .

 

Earlier, the chairmen Senate and House committees on anti corruption and financial crimes, Prince Kayode Akiolu and Mr Emmanuel Udende expressed confidence that the roundtable would serve as a model .

In a contribution , Ondo State Chief judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola urged the Southwest attorneys-general to build a stronger network for others to deal with corruption

 

In a keynote address, the former Lagos state Attorney general and commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo said independence remained an inevitable key to the successful running of the office of attorney general.
