The Kano State Ministry of Health has successfully concluded the fourth cycle of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

The exercise, held from Sunday, October 19 to Wednesday, October 22, 2025, was carried out in collaboration with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and other development partners.

The SMC campaign remains a key malaria prevention strategy aimed at reducing the disease burden among children aged 3 to 59 months.

During the exercise, trained health workers conducted house-to-house visits to administer preventive malaria medicines and sensitize communities on environmental hygiene and malaria prevention practices.

According to the commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the completion of the 4th cycle coincides with the end of the rainy season and the onset of the cold season a period when mosquito breeding begins to decline.

He however, residents were urged to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate stagnant water, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes even during the colder months.

The commissioner commended the dedication and hard work of healthcare workers and partner organizations for ensuring the campaign’s successful execution, noting that 2025 recorded significant progress in the state’s malaria prevention efforts.

Dr Abubakar further reminded the public to continue using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and other protective measures to safeguard families against mosquito bites and malaria infection.
