Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has commissioned a solar electrification project at the Dutse Ultra-Modern Market, fulfilling his administration’s pledge to provide clean and reliable energy for traders.

The project, executed by the Jigawa State Economic Empowerment and Youth Employment Agency, connects 300 shops to solar power, with each shop also fitted with a solar-powered ceiling fan at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Namadi said the project would ease business operations, reduce expenses, and increase the profitability of traders who will now enjoy uninterrupted power supply without electricity bills.

He recalled that part of the solar grid was inaugurated last year by Vice President Kashim Shettima, adding that the new phase marks the fulfillment of the government’s commitment to connect individual stalls.

The governor also pledged to install solar streetlights within the market to enhance security and revealed that the state government has injected ₦4 billion into the Bank of Industry to support small-scale businesses under a partnership agreement.

Chairman of the Jigawa State Traders’ Association, Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim, commended the governor for his continuous support to traders and described the solar power project as a major boost to business activities in the state.
