The Federal University of Technology Minna, in Niger state has said that it will continue to partner with government and non governmental organizations on access to information that is geared towards ensuring the success of Freedom Of Information Act in the promotion of good governance, transparency and accountability in the management of its operation.
This is owing to the fact that lack of information create communication gap and brings about suspicion.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta stated this while declaring opened a one day Freedom Of Information stakeholders training workshop organized by the Federal Ministry of Justice Abuja in conjunction with the FOI unit of FUT Minna,
held at the Gidan Kwano campus.
Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta explained that the Freedom Of Information Act wasn’t new to the Federal University of Technology Minna, as the institution has been doing a lot to make its activities in a transparent manner in line with the law guiding its operations which he said was one one of the reason why they are excelling in all aspect of human endeavours.
According to him already their income and expenditure is published on weekly basis and that they hold Senate meeting on monthly basis which is why FUT Minna considered Freedom Of Information as a major ingredient that drive every organisation to enhance its growth and sustainability.
Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta however explained that the Federal University of Technology Minna is not only yearning for academic excellence but also for effective service delivery and transparency in its dealings to achieve the desired objective stressing that they have assembled experts and Major players in the university to advice them on how best to improve their performance.
In an open address, the Freedom Of Information Desk Officer Federal University of Technology Minna, Barrister Evelyn Hussaini applauded the Federal Ministry of Justice and and management FUT Minna for the support in ensuring the success of the workshop and expressed optimism that it will no doubt broden the knowledge of participants in understanding the Freedom Of Information Act.
Delivering lecture with the theme “Overview of the Freedom Of Information Act 2021” Barrister Mariah Martins of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja explained that FUT Minna is the first University that comply with section thirteen of Freedom Of Information Act, and reminded relevant bodies of the seven days window to respond to FOI request.
