Federal Ministry of Health says it is working on effective modalities aimed at crashing down Maternal mortality rates in the Country.

Speaking for the Health Ministry in Sokoto, the Planning and States Engagement Associate, under the Renewed Hope Agenda on health policy, known as Sector Wide Approach SWAP, Dr. Adam Ahmad said the project is a community-driven strategies towards improving healthcare delivery.

Dr. Adam Ahmad stated this at a five day workshop designed to gather stakeholders, including government officials, health professionals, and community leaders, to develop a comprehensive implementation plan for MAMII.

He explained that the The Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative ,MAMII was launched on November 2024 by the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate,

Dr.Adam stressed that the move focuses on repositioning primary health care centres, mobile health solutions and engaging all stakeholders in a bid to reducing Maternal and Infant Mortality rate in Nigeria.

In his speech, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, Dr Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, conceded that Sokoto is the second leading state battling with high rate of maternal mortality in the country.

He regretted that the state is facing a shortage of skilled man power in the maternal and infant health care delivery in the state.

According to him, the state government centred its attention on health care delivery.

Dr.Faruk Wurno maintained that health is one of the state government’s nine points agenda geared towards developing the state.

In a remark the Unicef health manager, Sokoto field office, Dr.Shamina sharmin said the launch of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives MAMII by the FG demonstrated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to repositioning the health sector for effective service delivery.
