Members of the Niger state chapter of Scrap Dealers Association of Nigeria and that of ACOMORAN have been advised to be responsible in their business and avoid buying stolen or vandalised items from miscreants.

 

Commissioner of Police In Charge of Niger state, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman gave the advice when members of the Scrap Dealers Association and that of ACOMORAN visited him, at the Police Headquarters in Dutsen-kura, Minna.

 

Abdullahi Adamu Elleman stressed the need for them to always purchase their materials from the right source rather than trying to cut corners.

 

While engaging the Executive Members of  ACOMORAN, the Commissioner of Police, lamented that most of the vandalised/stolen items are usually being conveyed by tricycles and motorcycles, and urged them to caution and educate their members against aiding and abetting  vandalism in the State.

 

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Niger state however emphasised that anyone found to have been involved in buying stolen/vandalised items, and arrying items that couldn’t be substantiated, will be decisively dealt with to serve as deterrent to others.

 

He however informed them that Niger State Government is working on a legal framework through the State House of Assembly to enact appropriate laws to guide and regulate the scrap business in the State.

 

In their separate responses, the Scrap Dealers Association appreciated the Commissioner of Police and informed him that during their last meeting with the State Government, some rules were announced to include, prohibition of persons less than 18yrs in the scrap business, and that their agents wear reflective jackets among others.

 

While ACOMORAN leaders also commended the Commissioner of Police, noting that the issues of thuggery and other vices have drastically reduced in the metropolis, and assured the Commissioner of Police of their support and cooperation to succeed.
