United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), European Union (EU), in collaboration with Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), has trained 402 caregivers from ten local government areas of the state.

The training was part of UNICEF’s implementation of Education and Youth Empowerment Project (EU EYE p) project, funded by the European Union with the aim of increasing the number of boys and girls benefiting from safe and inclusive education.

The 402 caregivers were trained on learning through play for pre-primary education pupils and the application of curriculum and teachers’ guide for pre-primary education level for a period of one year.

The caregivers trained were from 201 schools across 10 intervention local governments that included Babura, Birnin Kudu, Garki, Hadejia, Jahun, Kafin Hausa, Kazaure, Kiri Kasamma, Kiyawa and Maigatari local government areas.

The Education and Youth Empowerment program complements the efforts of governments in the benefitting states in increasing access to inclusive, quality basic education in underserved and nomadic communities of the benefiting states.

The EU and the Federal Government signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for financing the agreement for the project in March, 2023.

Radio Nigeria reports that the programme which is part of the EU’s human development priorities designed to contribute to education and research through enhanced access to modern and inclusive education, is targeted at strengthening the education sector planning and policy implementation to improve education service delivery in the benefitting states.
