Callers on FRCN Kaduna’s programme Zamani Abokin Tafiya yesterday expressed support for the declaration of a State of Emergency in the Northern geo-political zone, as advocated by the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum, to address the region’s growing insecurity.
They noted that such a declaration was necessary given the daily loss of lives and property due to banditry, despite the trillions of Naira allocated to combat the menace.
They also called for greater collaboration among state governors to achieve the desired objectives.
The callers who stressed the need for security agencies to redouble efforts towards restoration of peace in the zone were concerned over its negative impact on socio-economic activities, particularly, farming which should no longer be tolerated by the relevant authorities.
Isya Dankishin Nigeria, Alhaji Buhari Aliyu Wakilin Ayukka, Muhammad Atiyan Sani Sabongarin Zaria and Murtala Saidu also expressed concern over delayed payment of retired workers benefits after thirty-five years of meritorious service to the nation.
Guest on the programme, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad advocated for review of the Pension Reforms to address the challenges in the interest of public service while EFCC and ICPC probe such lapses for necessary action to serve as deterrent to others.
