The Nigerian Army has re-iterated its commitment to strengthening national security, the rule of law and economic prosperity of Nigeria.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Olufemi Oluyede gave the assurance at an interdenominational church service to commemorate this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration-NADCEL, held at the St Peter’s Catholic Church, Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna State.

 

Lt General Olufemi Oluyede explained that globally, Nigerian Army is recognised as a key player in regional security initiatives, while working tirelessly to protecting citizens, defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and supporting the civil authority to maintaining law and order.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding One Division, Major General Mayirenso David Saraso, the Army Chief pointed out that NADCEL is a medium to honour fallen heroes, celebrate those in active service and pray for a stronger future.

He noted that the theme for this year’s event underscores the commitment to aligning with the overall policy dynamics underpinning contemporary security and defence management in the country and beyond.

Lt General Oluyede who described the Jumu’at and Church services as significant and remarkable in celebrating the one hundred and sixty-two years of Army’s dedicated service to Nigeria, also expressed gratitude to God for His guidance and victories in the numerous battles and challenges over the years, and prayed for continued blessings in the years ahead.

In his sermon, the Deputy Director Chaplain services at the One Division, Lt Col. Sunday Ugwu stressed the need for spiritual upliftment as basis for sacrifices for humanity and trust in God’s protection.

 

The clergyman, who quoted chapters and verses from the holy book, also tasked personnel to be disciplined and God-fearing.

The event featured reading of various chapters and verses from the holy book, NADCEL Special Thanksgiving, Alleluia chorus among others.

 

The theme for this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration is: “Developing The Soldier First Concept: Imperative For Nigerian Army Transformation Drive”
