President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident involving members of the Kano State contingent returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kano State, as well as the families of those who lost their lives.
Describing the incident as a devastating blow to the nation, President Tinubu said the accident casts a shadow over the National Sports Festival, which has long served as a symbol of unity and a platform for nurturing athletic talent.
“These young Nigerians embodied the resilient spirit of our nation,” the President said, while also pledging to take concrete steps to prevent future tragedies and improve safety standards in the country’s transport systems.
The President prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for strength and comfort for their bereaved families.
In a related development, President Tinubu has also reacted to the severe flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which has claimed lives and displaced several families.
Taking to his official X handle on Friday night, the President conveyed his condolences to the affected families and the people of Niger State.
In response to the disaster, President Tinubu ordered the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre and received a full briefing from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
He directed that all relevant federal agencies be mobilised to support search-and-rescue operations, and that relief materials and temporary shelters be provided without delay.
“I assure all those impacted that our government stands with you. We are working closely with the Niger State Government to ensure a swift and compassionate response that prioritises lives and accelerates recovery,” Tinubu stated.
The President ordered Security agencies to assist in emergency operations and mandated continuous updates from NEMA and the Emergency Response Centre.
“As a nation, we must draw strength from our unity and shared humanity during difficult times,” the President said.
